A receipt proves payment, an invoice requests it
This distinction matters for bookkeeping on both sides. An invoice creates an obligation; a receipt discharges it. If a customer pays an invoice, issuing a matching receipt gives them the document their own accountant will ask for.
Receipts in WeQuotation are automatically marked as paid, and the balance-due line is removed — because by definition, nothing is outstanding.
Recording how payment was made
The receipt layout includes a payment method field (cash, card, bank transfer, PayPal, or other) that other document types do not show. Recording the method is worth the extra second: it is the detail that resolves "I already paid you" disputes months later, especially for cash transactions with no bank record.
For retail and in-person sales
If you are issuing receipts at a counter rather than emailing them, the Retail template category uses a narrow, compact layout closer to a printed till receipt than a full-page document. It still downloads as a standard PDF.
